Chesney Hawkes is our 'One and Only' Surrey Day 2025 Ambassador

Chesney Hawkes has been announced as the 2025 ambassador for Surrey Day, which takes place in just over two months' time, on Saturday 10 May.

The singer is now back home in Surrey after living in Los Angeles. He began his career at the age of 19, appearing in the film Buddy's Song, which featured his best-known single "The One and Only". The song topped the UK Singles Chart for five weeks and reached the Top 10 in the United States.

2025 is a busy year for Chesney, with a new album set to be released in April. He will also be accompanying James Blunt on his European arena tour.

Commenting on the role, Chesney said: “I’m delighted to be this year’s Surrey Day ambassador. Surrey is where I live, and I love it.”

Chesney follows a long line of familiar faces who’ve taken up the ambassador role, including Dame Judi Dench, Sir Brian May, Eamonn Holmes OBE, Dame Penelope Keith and Brian Blessed OBE.

Surrey Day themes

The themes for Surrey Day 2025 include a reflection on the county’s role in the Second World War, tying in with the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

There will also be a celebration of the great outdoors, with a ‘Big Dog Walk’, something that appeals to Surrey Day Ambassador Chesney Hawkes, who has dogs of his own. “Virginia Water Lake, close to where I live, is one of the best places for doggy walks,” he said.

If you're planning something to mark Surrey Day, don't worry if it's not around these themes - feel free to get imaginative and, above all, have fun! Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum celebrated Surrey Day with multicultural performances.
