'Romantic' Guildford restaurant that's 'always busy' named fourth most loved by diners in the UK

In recent years, Guildford has become a hotspot for excellent dining options, with eateries across the town's bustling streets offering a fantastic range of cuisines from dozens of cultures. And seemingly the epitome of this dining excellence is an Italian restaurant which has been a mainstay in Guildford for many years.

Positano, which is just a short walk from the cobbled boulevard of the High Street, has been named as one of the best restaurants in the UK. The Italian restaurant ranked fourth in TheFork's UK February Community restaurant rankings

Described as having "wonderful food, (and) phenomenal service" by reviewers, Positano is clearly held dearly by diners; having previously achieved 18th place in TheFork's December 2024 rankings. These are just some of the many awards the restaurant has added to its metaphorical trophy cabinet in the last few years. In 2023, Positano was named Surrey's best restaurant in the British Restaurant Awards, and just a few years prior, 2017, the eatery was named as the best restaurant in Surrey by Michelin's Bookatable.

Positano scored 9.7 out of 10 from more than 3,300 reviews. Reviewers have near-perfect things to say about the restaurant's service, which scored 9.9 out of 10. The food rating was not far behind at 9.7, and ambience just one point below at a 9.6.

**Described as 'intrinsically romantic',**Positano seems like the perfect choice for Valentine's Day, but not only because of the food and service; the Positano building itself is described as cosy and old-timely, making it a perfect romantic setting for a romantic date.

The red-brick Elizabethan era building, which is just a short walk from Guildford's iconic Guildhall clock; is believed to have been the house of former Mayors' of the town dating way back to the 17th Century. The interior also brings an atmosphere of Elizabethan romance; with the structure's original beams still in place, dark-wood panels, and banquette seating on dozens of white linen dressed tables.

Reviewers have described Positano as having "extremely warm welcome from staff, (who are) very attentive from start to finish", with "excellent" service, reviewers also complimented the amount of choice available on the menus. Many reviews also state that the restaurant's offerings are "reasonably priced", which is always a plus.
