On Saturday 5 October 2024, the University of Surrey and the Institute of Physics will join forces once again to host a day of space-related events at the top of Guildford’s High Street and Tunsgate Quarter. ** No booking required. Just turn up and have fun with all our space exhibits!** Join us for an out-of-this-world experience as the University of Surrey and the Institute of Physics team up for a spectacular day of space-themed activities! Whether you’re a budding astronaut, an aspiring space engineer, or simply curious about the cosmos, there’s something for everyone.

Event Highlights:

Pop-Up Planetarium: Thanks to The Observatory Science Centre, join us for an interactive astronomy experience in our pop-up planetarium. With state-of-the-art software and an array of presentations on offer, these live shows will run on the hour on a first come first served basis. Mini Mars Rover: Get up close and personal with a working model of a mini Mars rover and see how these incredible machines explore the Red Planet. Interactive Demonstrations: Experts from Surrey Space Centre will showcase fascinating space technology and research. Astronomy Activities: Our astrophysicists from the School of Mathematics & Physics will be on hand to answer your astronomy questions, guide you through constellation activities, and challenge you with an escape room-style experience. Local Space Industry Showcase: Meet local employers in the space sector, including Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL). Discover models of spacecraft, propulsion tanks, circuit boards, and exterior panels used in real satellites.

SPACE ART COMPETITION

Submission deadline: Thursday, 3 October 2024 at 4 PM Winners announced: Saturday, 5 October 2024 at 2 PM

We are seeking visual artwork in any medium related to space. You can enter one of two categories: KS1/2 or KS3/4.

We encourage entrants to attend the WSW24 event on Saturday, 5 October at Tunsgate Quarter, where winners will be announced and will receive a prize.

Deliver your entry to Tunsgate Quarter Shopping Centre in Guildford any day between 2-4 PM. On arrival, contact Centre Management (01483 560800) who will collect entries. Alternatively, submit digitally to [email protected]. Remember to include your name, year group, email address, and a 100-word description of your entry.
