German-born Johan Zoffany (1733-1810) found fame after his arrival in England in 1760 as a painter of theatrical scenes for the leading actor David Garrick, showing them at London’s new art exhibitions.

Soon he was painting small scale ‘conversation piece’ portraits for the aristocracy and royalty. Join lecturer Hilary Underwood to explore Zoffany’s fascinating insights into Georgian society.

This lecture is part of our A to Z of Art History series which concludes this autumn.
